I’ve got a bad case of planter's thumb!
So busy at the moment in the "seed sowing/potting on" department here at CQ HQ!

I've been madly washing out plastic containers. I mostly use things that have contained blueberries or raspberries, sometimes they don’t have holes in the bottom though so I have to do this myself, either by putting said container on a piece of wood and banging a nail in several times or heating up a skewer and melting a hole in the bottom, I don’t recommend this though as it can be a bit hit and miss. Some of the containers already have holes in the bottom which is great.

I use a seed compost, peat free of course and because chillis, peppers and aubergines have to be started so early and as my greenhouse is unheated, these have all been brought into the kitchen and I've put them above a radiator on a window sill. I am pleased to say that almost everything has come up!  Over the next few weeks I will be pricking out and potting on, please join me in the green house on Instagram @cqgardens or on FB - CQ gardens

Thanks my followers I’ve had lots of good advice about which strawberries to grow, they are in my greenhouse and I shall be planting up this week.

The rest of the garden has a real feel of spring about it, despite the fact that we've only had a couple of days of sunshine. The daffodils are going over but the blossom is out on the ornamental cherry and the fruit trees are coming into leaf.

I hope this finds you well, dry and full of chocolate!

Please do let me know how you're getting on with your plants, be they in 40 acres of land, on a balcony, on a window sill or in your mind’s eye.

Lots of love

    Hi Caroline

I love watching & reading what you’re up to – you always inspire me. I really love your garden and following you on insta. I recently purchased your book and I’m loving every minute of it especially your gorgeous paintings. Im growing some sweet peas from seed they are doing well on my kitchen windowsill. But cheated a bit and bought some cucumber, orange & yellow pepper & a couple of tomato plants from my local garden centre….. I had very good success last time I did this. But have some lettuces ( cut and come again ) & sunflowers seeds bought by my daughters to grow from seed will also grow radishes and cosmos. I’m in the process of selling my house so will do them in pots and can’t wait to get a bigger garden at some point as I have a small urban plot but crammed with pots and planters of everything I love. Hope this messsge isn’t too long as could talk gardening for ages.

Thankyou again Best Wishes Lynda x

Hi Caroline. Yes it’s beginning to look like seed time at long last. I’m trying ‘snail’ method of sowing seeds this year with bubble wrap. Hopefully they will take unfortunately my sweet pea seeds I sewed a few weeks ago have been unsuccessful so will try some more. Have to have them, dahlias, fuschias and sweet Williams in memory of my dad who had a lovely border at our family home when I lived there in the 60’s

Hello from not so sunny Portugal. We have had the wettest winter for over 50 years. This has resulted in fallen trees and rampant torrents of rain, washing away most of the topsoil. I have an unheated greenhouse but with all of the storms the panels have blown out all over the neighbours land.
