Help Me Choose: Which Strawberries Should I Grow?

Help Me Choose: Which Strawberries Should I Grow?

Good day to you all,

The Easter bank holiday is still a favourite time here at CQGardens .  The weather is improving, slowly and the crocuses and Daffodils are making way for apple blossom and tulips. The rooks are hopping around the garden picking up twigs to add to their nests that are already visible high up in the oaks and beeches that are at the end of our garden.

I'm planning a new strawberry bed and am trying to create it without buying anything new ( apart from new strawberry plants as i don't have any currently … or any currants currently but that next years plan!). I think I'll use some old apple crates and and a garden bench to lift the new strawberry bed off the ground , away from mice , who love a ripe strawberry …

I’m also on the hunt for the best varieties to start with, so if you’ve had great success with a particular type of strawberry, I’d love to hear about it. There seem to be so many choices – early, late, everbearing... If you have any tried-and-tested favourites, or clever tips for keeping the plants happy and productive, please do share them in the comments. I’m especially keen to learn any tricks for keeping the slugs at bay, and the harvest going for as long as possible. Gardening always feels more like a shared adventure than a solo project, so your wisdom is very welcome!

I'll keep you posted as to my success or failure.

Lots of love CQ

Sticky copper on a real that sticks to the pots and trees stops slugs and snails from crossing, they won’t go across the copper. It really works! Amazon or garden centres sell it.
